Summertime Sadness. A Collaboration with Shy Makeup Artist!

This look was a collaboration with the lovely Brandi of  Shy Makeup Artist . We thought a fun end of summer look would be cool to do. I got my inspiration from a sunset the other day. It was so colorful and just magical. It was the perfect inspiration for this bold spotlight smokey eye. Be sure to check out Shy Makeup Artist to see the gorgeous look she created!

Without further ado, let’s get started.

I started with doing my usual brow routine, moisturizer, and priming. So we begin with a nice black canvas. I used The SmashBox 24 Hour Eye Primer and a bit of Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer to hide any freckles and veins.

For eyeshadow,  I wanted to use The Vice 3 because of its fun vibrant shades. I love this palette but it doesn’t get used nearly enough.

I started with my base color using Truth, a matte cream shade,  to set my concealer and help create a smooth surface for blending. I placed this from lid to brow bone.

Then as a transition shade, I used Downfall. It’s a warm soft camel shade, perfect for a blending shade. I applied this to the crease and blended upward using a fluffy brush.

Now for the fun colors! In the center of the lid, I used Lucky, an orange gold. A perfect sunset shade. I packed this on with a flat shader brush just to the center.

Then on the outer and inner corner I put Sonic, a warm reddish-orange shade. I used the same flat shader brush. I softly blended it into Lucky, careful not to lose the golden shade but just to create a smooth transition.

I then went back in with Downfall, the transition shade and blended the colors into the crease.

Then went back in with Lucky and Sonic on a damp brush to intensify the color and pulled it outward a bit toward the tail of my brow.

Next, I added my liner. I used this very dark bronze by Tarte called Copper, and a touch of a brown liquid liner to add depth. Layering liquid over pencil is a great way to add more depth to your liner.

For the lower last line, I wanted a strong contrast with the red and gold of the top. For this, I used Freeze and then Dragon in the center. I applied these shades with a damp liner brush and joined them up to the liner.

For mascara, I used my new tube of my old favorite. Lights Camera Lashes by Tarte.

On to face, I used SmashBox Primer, Nars Weightless Luminous 16 hour Foundation, Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer and Nars setting powder, I’m speeding through the skin because I just went over the same stuff in a tutorial and it’s boring. LOL

Now for the cheeks, I used Park Ave Princess from Tarte to warm up my complexion. I wanted to have some color since the look is a summer theme.  I dusted it where the sun would normally hit my face. For my highlight, I used Champagne from Tarte, and my blush was the Amazonian Clay Blush from Tarte in Deserving. It’s a nice peachy shade with gold flecks. Similar to Nars Orgasm but not quite as shimmery.

For Lips I used a Sephora liner, then a Kat Von D Everlasting lipstick in Bachelorette. It was a tad too pink so I added the Maybelline Color Whisper over top in Orange Attitude.

And I finished off with All Nighter Setting Spray from Urban Decay. It was 101 degrees out so I needed all the help I could get.

Special thank you to Brandi for collaborating with me on this, it was so much fun.  I can’t wait to work with her again.

As always, thank you all for stopping by and feedback is always welcome!

Bee You!
