Today’s post is all about getting that glow. The lit from within, healthy radiance we all want. Like we drank from the fountain of youth or got locked by a unicorn. Either way, glowing skin is in. I’m going to share with you some of my favorite products and ways to get that glow.
The most important and simple way to get healthy glowing skin is to drink water. Good old h2o, Bobby Bocher knows what’s up. Hydrated skin is happy skin.
A good skincare routine is important too. Exfoliating a couple times of week keeps skin bright. Moisturizers are also key. I like to use a heavy duty night Cream with retinol before bed after I wash my face. Before makeup, I apply a face oil or serum and a Moisturizer with an SPF about 10 minutes before I do my makeup. This gives it time to sink in and do its job.
For today’s look, I used Cetaphil Daily Moisturizer with SPF 50. It gives a very moisturized luminous appearance
Sticking to the basics, an illuminating primer can do wonders for creating a lit from within glow. They come in a variety of undertones from translucent pearl, pink to bronze boosting.
I used the NYX Dew Me Up and the NYC primer today.
There’s a great selection of illuminating and dewy finish foundations on the market right now. For a dewy appearance, I’d recommend the Maybelline Fit Me foundation, MAC Face, and Body or the Nars Sheer Glow. I’m partial to the illuminating formulas like Loreal True Match Lumi and the Revlon PhotoReady Airbrush Effect Foundation.
For a lighter coverage, a good BB cream is awesome. I really like the Physicians Formula one but I want to give the Revlon PhotoReady BB Cream a go soon.
Illuminating and dewy foundations are also wonderful on the mature skin. They promote a youthful glow.
Today I used the Loreal True Match Lumi and the Nars Creamy Radiant Concealer. There is also some great brightening concealers out there like the one from Loreal in the Lumi line. I ran out or I’d be using it today too.
This would be an ideal time to apply a cream blush or cheek stain. They can create a beautiful effect of a natural flush. I like the ones from Tarte paired with a BB cream in the summer. elf makes some great HD cream blushes similar to the ones from Makeup Forever.
A good setting powder is handy too, you want to be luminous, not oily. I like a brightening powder myself. I have a variety of different levels of “shimmer”. The elf HD powder in the brightening formula is very luminous. The Nars Light Reflecting Setting Powder is very subtle and invisible on the skin. NYX makes a great brightening color correcting powder which is a nice go-between as does elf. The Revlon PhotoReady finish powder gives a lovely finish too.
I used the elf HD powder today for maximum glow.
I love a good shimmery blush that gives a highlighted effect. The Milani Baked Blushes are gorgeous for this, and the Hourglass blushes are stunning. Laura Geller, NYX, and elf also have beautiful baked blushes with a nice glowy sheen.
Today I used Milani Baked Blush in Berry Amore.
Highlighters! I’m obsessed. I have tons of de-potted ones not pictured. I like looking like a disco ball. The NYX Liquid illumination is gorgeous under foundation or applied before powder to the high points of the face. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders are a great option. They’re subtle and finely milled, perfect for a glowing effect. For some extra shine, I like the elf Baked Highlighters. Extremely good and an excellent price point.
I used a combination of the Ambient Lighting Powders and the Bronzer with a bit of the Elf Baked Highlighter in the pinky shade on the high points of my cheeks.
If you have medium to the dark skin I’d recommend using a highlighter in a warm gold range because the lighter ones will look kinda frosty or ashy. Peachy highlighter also looks brilliant on darker skin tones.
I like to keep the highlights to the high points of my face. Tops of the cheek bones, the tip of the nose, and cupids bow. You don’t want to place anywhere that you have large pores of texture as it can bring attention to it. I also avoid areas that tend to get oily, generally, you want to be strategically placed on the high points only because you can end up looking greasy.

After you’ve added powders, it can get a bit… powdery looking. That’s where a setting spray comes in handy. They will take down the powdery texture and make your makeup stay all day. Setting sprays come in many forms to ones that offer a dewy finish or matte.
These are all just suggestions on how to get glowing skin, I wouldn’t recommend doing them all in one look. LOL. They’re just to show you all the different ways to achieve a radiant finish. You can mix and match as you please. It’s just makeup after all. You do you.
I did a simple shimmery eye today using the Urban Decay Vice 3 Palette.
For the lips, I chose a fun berry shade. I’m loving Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Wolvesmouth.
Uber glow!
