Good Evening! Tonight, I have a long awaited review of the Kat Von D Metal Matte Palette. What the heck took so long?! I know right? I wanted to really play with the palette and create some looks with it before I jumped into a review and then I ended up having oral surgery this week which went surprisingly well. Adios wisdom teeth! I also had a makeup gig and a benefit to work. Both turned out great! Enough rambling, on with the makeup talk!
The Packaging

The first thing you know I want to talk about is the packaging, which as always in Kat’s case, excellent. While the palette itself is quite long and kind of wide, it’s still sleek and thin. It’s made of sturdy the same sturdy cardboard packaging like the Shade+Light and Serpentina. However, the length may give you some storage issues. In fact, the girls at Sephora had trouble finding a bag that suited it. LOL. So it’s not the most travel-friendly palette but that’s no biggie because it’s a truly special palette with a unique array of colors and stellar quality.

The aesthetic of the packaging is a hair minimal with a bold silver foil font, like tattoo font. Like those Life/Death tattoos, it can be read as Metal from one way and then Matte when flipped. I thought that was a cute nod to the tattoo community considering Kat’s skill in that field. Her passions are always so evident in her makeup, from the names of her shades to the smallest details of the font.

Included in the palette is a paper with 3 mini tutorials and hand drawn face charts for added inspiration.
The Breakdown

MetalMatte is finally here! Get your hands on our brand new, super-limited eyeshadow palette: 22 to-die-for shades in two high-contrast finishes. At KvD Beauty, we celebrate the two sides within everyone, whether it’s soft and romantic, rock ‘n’ roll, or both!
The top row is a gorgeous lineup of Metal Crush Eyeshadow in 8 new shades, plus “Synergy,” a bestselling bronze from the original collection. The bottom row features a rainbow array of buttery mattes in Kat’s signature eyeshadow formula, with a range of new tones,
from dark and moody to pastel neutrals.
This must-have composition of colors and textures gives you a ton of rad looks. You can also get inspired with the three fearless tutorials on the included insert, each with easy 1-2-3 instructions and suggested lip pairings!
Just like every product our fearless leader touches, Kat left her mark with a piece of original artwork—she drew the logo on the outside of the palette as an ambigram. It reads “Metal” one way, then flip it upside-down to form “Matte.”

And here’s the shadows! A beautiful and unique range. Every eyeshadow palette looked like the ABH Modern Renesance Palette right now so the Metal Matte is a breath of fresh air in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong, if you’ve been on my Instagram lately you know I’ve been obsessed with those cranberry shades like the ABH palette. Anyway, back to the shades.
Anyway, back to the shades. You have 9 metallic shadows in her Metal Crush formula. 8 of which are brand new to this palette. The Metal Crush formula is an incredibly pigmented and buttery smooth long wearing shadow.
The matte shades are on par with the mattes in the Shade + Light Eyeshadow Palette and quads. Smooth, blendable and buildable. The matte shades are colors you don’t normally see with a matte finish making the palette all the more special. These out of the ordinary colors are surprisingly versatile and wearable.

The Swatches
The Mattes
The Metals
Here is a quick comparison between the blue (Nebula) and the teal (Watt) from the Metal Matte with the blue (Nile) and the teal green (Scarab) from the Serpentina palette. Serpentina is the bottom row.
They are almost the same but in different lighting, they have slightly different undertones and shifts.
The Looks
The Verdict
Obviously, I love the palette and would 10 outta 10 would recommend! You can still get it from KatVonDBeauty.com for $60 I picked mine up at my local Sephora.
I’m definitely getting this. I’ve been waiting. 😉
