Maybelline Loaded Bold Lipstick Review and Swatches.

Welcome back Beauty Bees. (god, that sounded lame) Today, I have a review of the Maybelline Loaded Bolds range, I have four of the shades to show you with swatches. So let’s get started! maybelline-loaded-boldsFirst up, as you probably know from my reviews, I like to talk about the packaging. These are of the same shape and make as all of Maybelline’s lipsticks. Each collection is differentiated by the color and finish of the cap. In the Loaded Bolds case, the cap is a translucent royal blue with a silver metal bullet. Nice, sleek but nothing too fancy but they look great in a grouping on the vanity. They will get kind of messy looking with fingerprints.20161208_090151

The formula I think is pretty unique. While I’m not familiar with Maybelline’s other traditional lipsticks. I can tell you these are different than any I have tried at the drugstore or from a high-end line. Here’s what’s different about them, they have a very prominent silicone feel much like a face primer. I have never felt that in a lipstick before so I looked up the ingredients and the lipsticks are made with silica.  This is going to be something that is a personal preference if you think that’s a good feel on the lips or not. I don’t mind it one bit.  According to Maybelline’s website, they are a clay based formula and made with Honey Nectar to leave a creamy texture. I’m no scientist but I know silica is found in nature and in sand… so would that be the clay they are referring too? Anyway, the honey nectar does keep the lipstick from being too drying on the lips and keeps it comfortable while still being a nice creamy matte.

The lipstick is very long wearing and wears away gracefully over a few hours. They are not kiss or food proof by any mean. They will transfer just like any other lippy.

They have a fragrance that is very synthetic smelling but goes away.

Let’s see some swatches. carpe-1Pitch Black is not the best performing shade, it’s patchy as hell in fact. I applied black liner then the lipstick to get it to look good. While I am tickled to find a black lipstick at the drugstore, from Maybelline no less. This one hard to work with but you can get it there.  Out of the four I have, this is the only dud. carpe-2Next, is Raging Rasin, a beautiful warm plum shade goes on smooth and wears great, has killer pigmentation. I love this one. carpe-3

Mauve it is a cool smoky purple shade. It some lights it comes off more of a dusty rose tone and in others a purple shade. It’s a great shade and just like Raging Rasin, it wears great, pigmented and smooth. carpeAnd lastly, I have Gone Griege. This is that perfect gray/beige shade. Again, it’s a win. Pigmented smooth and wears great. It makes a nice “Nude” if you wanna shake things up a bit. Oddly flattering.

Overall, these are great lipsticks with a creamy matte finish. Comfortable and pigmented. Maybe avoid the vampy shades as they may be patchy like the black. The shade range is quite impressive. From the grayed out smoky shades. vibrant reds and coral oranges, vampy bolds to avant-garde navy, white, black and purples. The shades are great for all skin tones.

The Maybelline Loaded Bolds retail for around 7 bucks and you can find them anywhere Maybelline is sold.

Have you tried these lippies? What is your favorite shade from the range?

    1. Nope, they weren’t any more drying to me than any other traditional lipstick. They have a powdery feel but are creamy. The texture reminds me of face primer. I forgot to mention they have an impressive range in shades too.

  1. Hey babe, I actually have like 4 or 5 of these. I love them. I feel they last super long and are definitely super moisturizing… Their range of Nude shades really blew my mind, I had a hard time picking one out… But, I was really impressed with their more fashion colors they had going on. They didn’t just stick with the traditional spectrum with these ones. I’m a huge fan of Maybelline products!
