Tarte Tarteist Pro Glow Highlight & Contour Palette Review

 

Happy Wednesday! It’s review time again. Tonight, I have a review, swatches and some looks with the Tarte Tarteist Pro Glow Highlight and Contour Palette. Spoiler Alert! It’s a good one!

Let’s jump in!

The Packaging:

The packaging for this guy is super heavy and damn nice. It’s a bifold palette, with mirrors along the inside of each “door” with a strongly magnetized closure. On one side you have the cooler toned highlighters and a contour powder and on the other are warm golden toned highlighters and a cream contour. I really like the bifold door style palette, it’s unique and handy as it protects the cream contour from getting messed up ideally. However, I jabbed my finger in it as soon as I took the palette out of the box. Go me!

The exterior is a rubberized finish that unfortunately holds on to every smudge. It’s impossible to keep clean. but it looks fab when you first get it. lol.

The Breakdown + Swatches:

Inside you get 4 highlighters, 2 cool toned and 2 warm toned.

The formula is buttery soft and they are super pigmented, They are beautifully gilded metallic and glowy. You can apply them with a light hand or build to an ultra blinding shine to for the gods.

There is a shade for everyone in this palette. The warm tones lend themselves wonderfully to pale skin and deep skin alike as well as the cool tones. All shades have a golden undertone to some extent.  I have used all 4 shades depending on my makeup. I find I can even pull off Fire which is the deepest most golden shade as a blush topper or mixed in with Lit. 

Lit is a described as a champagne highlight, it’ has a golden undertone and pulls warm but is just one of the shades anyone can wear. as with most these shades

Fire is described as a bronze highlight and that is exactly what it is. It’s a pure golden bronze that would be stunning on deeper skin tones. it’s trickier to pull off on super fair skin but I use it with a lighter hand either mixed with Lit or as blush topper.

Strobe is described as a pearl highlight. It’s the lightest of the 4 shades. It still has a warm undertone but not overwhelmingly so that fair skin could rock this one with ease. It’s the least metallic looking of the shades but still metallic and has golden micro glitter. 

Stunner is described as an opalescent highlight. I would call it a pale golden opalescent with a subtle pink shift depending on the lighting. It’s my favorite as it’s so metallic and such a pretty shade.

You get a cream contour shade and a powder contour as well. The cream shade leans warmer than the powder which is a taupe shade. They work together perfectly to create the perfect balance in tone for what you need for your skin tone.  Sculpt is a cool toned taupe contour perfect for lighter skin tones. it mimics shadows that appear on the face perfectly and naturally. It’s not so cool-toned that it would come off ashy on deeper skin tones. it’s the perfect middle ground. Sculpt isn’t overly pigmented so its super easy to use without going overboard. The texture is matte and smooth. One of the best contour shades I have ever used. It’s a near perfect dupe of Sombre (lightest contour) from the Kat Von D Shade and Light Contour Palette.

Shade is the cream contour that leans warmer and far more pigmented which works great to bring warmth to skin and can be cooled down by using Sculpt over top. I use Shade either before foundation or before I set my face, depending on my mood, never over powder. Then once I set it with face powder it looks natural on the skin, then I add Sculpt if I want more definition. The formula is very easy to work with and creamy.  It’s not stiff or dry. It blends like a dream. Shade can be applied lightly as a bronzer as well. It really brings a beautiful natural warmth to the face.

The Verdict:

While the highlights are very versatile and would work for the lightest to deepest skin tones, the contours are really ideal for pale – medium skin tones. I would have loved if they had made 2 versions of this palette, with deeper contour options. Hell, the highlights could be the same in both. I hate that some of us can’t get the most out of the palette because the contours are too light because the palette is so good, and the quality is outstanding. I may have the pallor of a vampire and my stuff may be geared toward pale skin but I want everyone to be able to enjoy products and be able to enjoy my blog, and as an MUA I have to be versed in all skin tones and types. I think of clients, friends, and family as well as myself when I review products.

However, for us pale gals, this palette may just be your go to one and done contour and highlight. And personally, I love this palette for me. Despite being pale as a ghost I love golden highlights and feel like they work on me just well as anyone.

I honestly can’t say enough how great the quality of the highlights and contours are. They feel like butter, so soft and the pigmentation is on point.

The Tarte Tarteist Pro Glow Highlight and Contour Palette retails for $45 and considering the quality, it’s well worth the money, even if you are only getting it for the highlight shades because you are still getting 4 highlights for about the same price and amount as an Anastasis Beverly Hills Glow Kit.
