Glam on the Go! Tips + Looks

glam on the go
Hello, Beauties! Dear Dharma asked if I would like to do another post with some more beauty advice so here we are.  Dear Dharma is an online advice column, so if you got questions, she got answers. You can check out Dear Dharma here for more.

In today’s post, I want to give you some of my tips for Glam on the Go when you need to take your daytime look into an evening look using just a few products that you can take along with you in your handbag. So you can get glam at the office or in the car then head out for drinks with friends or a date night with someone special.

I also included some looks I like to go to for those busy days when I need to amp my look up on the go.

What’s in my makeup bag!

Depending on the look I am doing that day, I like to bring along a few key products in my makeup bag.20170517_151128

There are a few staples I like to always have in my makeup bag.20170517_151135

An eyebrow pencil for sure because mine needs all the help they can get and sometimes need a touch up during the day.

I also like to keep a sample size mascara and eyeliner for touch ups or for amping up the eye in the evening.

As far as skin touch ups, I like to keep a concealer and setting powder handy as well as a beauty sponge which I keep in a plastic baggy so it stays clean with a few q-tips in case I need to tidy up around my eyes. The beauty sponge is great to have on hand to should you get some creasing or cakeyness, you can just dab it away.   Blotting papers also a great idea for those of you with oilier skin. I also opt for long wear foundations on days I know I am going to be out and about for long periods of time.

I like to opt for the deluxe sample sized versions of my favorite products for one because they are so travel-friendly and more affordable than buying a full size. You can pick up seasonal sets of deluxe samples at your local Sephora or Ulta from a variety of brands. It’s a great deal, and a great way to try out new products.  Alternately, you can try out services like Ipsy, Birchbox or Sephora Play for sample sized goodies that are perfect for travel or tossing in your handbag.

The deluxe sample sized lipsticks are my favorite because I can save room in my makeup bag and bring a couple lip options with me. Depending on the makeup, sometimes I want to vamp up the lip for the evening.

A lot of days I like to bring along a versatile palette which has multiple products I can use for touching up and for taking my makeup look to the next level. They usually have a nice mirror too which is ideal to have on hand.  You can find a few palettes like this at the drugstore as well as high-end.

If I don’t want to pack around a whole palette, I like to go for a cream eyeshadow or an eyeshadow pencil. These can be applied then blended out with your fingers so there is no need for brushes. You can find some great eyeshadow pencils and cream eyeshadows from the drugstore that are crease proof and will last all day and all night.Speaking of brushes. I like to have a blending brush in my bag, I love duo ended brushes for my makeup bag because you can get more than one brush while saving some space. I love the duo ended eye set from Eco Tools, they are affordable and great quality.

Lastly, I like to keep a sample size or roller ball perfume in my bag. Finally, something to do with all those samples you get from Sephora! I also keep a travel hairbrush and a travel-size dry shampoo in case my hair needs freshening up.

My Go-to Looks!

My first look is a simple eye,  using a neutral matte earth tone through the crease to add some depth to the eye and a defined upper lashline using a bit of brown eyeshadow to keep it soft. I finished off with a soft blush and a natural lip.Look 1

For evening glam, I left the lip neutral but amped up the eye using a metallic jumbo eyeshadow crayon blended up to the crease, you can blend with your finger or brush, I also brought the eyeshadow crayon along the lower lashline as well. I added a metallic gold cream eyeshadow to the inner corner and blended slightly onto the lid to really add some bring really make the eye pop.  This technique can be pulled off with a multitude of colors and finishes. You can really have fun with it and its so quick and  easy to work with the creams and crayons.Look 1 Glam
For my second go to look I just applied a blush all over the lid and blended into the crease for a wash of color, an inner corner highlight with a champagne shade and mascara. For the lip, I used a shade in a similar tone as the blush which I also used on my cheeks as well as the champagne highlight applied softly.Look 2

To glam up this look, I took a deep brown and blended it into the outer portion of the eye and along the lower lash line. In case you get fall out, hold a tissue under your eye while you apply and blend out the brown so you don’t get the shadow on your cheeks. I keep the same lip once again and stuck with a monochromatic look and added some more of the champagne highlight to the inner corners and along the cheek bones. I love this look for a date night, it’s smoky but soft and romantic. This look is also super quick to do, both daytime and evening.Look 2 Glam

This last look to me is a classic. It’s a little daytime glam as well. I softly define the crease and add a wing using a long wear gel or cream liner. You can pair this with a neutral or nude lip of course but why not a power red! This look can take you from day to night effortlessly.
