Urban Decay Naked 3 Review | Swatches | Looks

What up? Let’s kick this week off with a review. Today, I have a review, swatches and looks all with the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette.  The Palette that broke the internet. LOL!

This is an iconic palette if ever there were one. It set the rose gold trend we are all still riding high on in motion with its release in 2013. So let’s pick this palette apart and see if it still holds up after 4 years on the market.

What a fight it was to get your hands on this one, waiting in line for hours. It sold out everywhere and with good reason. I don’t recall a palette be so hyped since.

The Naked 3 palette is my favorite. It’s femininity in a palette. A beautiful shade range you just want to swatch and stare at because the colors are all so unique and nuanced. It may not be the most versatile color wise but none of the Naked palettes really are but I think this one is a must have still. Sure there are dupes and I will list them later in the post but this is one of the few times that I feel that nothing beats the original.

The Urban Decay Naked 3 comes in the tin case like the Naked 2. The font is a raised gold set on a wavy textured rose gold background.

The interior is the same as the previous Naked Palettes, 12 shadows, each labeled and a nice mirror.

The Breakdown + Swatches

Urban Decay Naked 3

All the shadows in the Naked 3 are harmonious with one another. There isn’t a shade that doesn’t belong.  To me, that palette is hard to describe. it’s like a cool toned palette that has warm undertones. It’s a palette that will flatter any skin tone and eye color. From the pale girl perspective, it’s a staple palette. You have

You have rose gold tones, pinks, mauves, and cool purple browns and grays. You have a mix of finishes and textures as well.

For the most part, the quality is what you would expect from UD. But not every shade is made the same which is typical with UD.

Strange is described as a “pale neutral pink matte-satin”.  The pink is very faint if visible at all.  The matte-satin texture is wonderful though. It’s super smooth and surprisingly pigmented for a such a pale shade.

Dust is a “pale metallic pink shimmer with iridescent micro glitter”.  This shade is kind of chunky. So I find it best to apply with a damp brush. The micro glitters tend to get everywhere, you will have fall out. It’s not as pigmented and smooth as I would like but still a good shadow. I would say this one shade is the dud of the palette.  I see more silver glitter than iridescent but this shade can be built up and look gorgeous, you just need some patience.

Burnout is one of my favorites, it’s described as a “light pinky-peach satin”. To me, this is a true rose gold shade. It’s soft and smooth on the lid. All around great eyeshadow. It brings a nice warmth to the palette.

Limit is described as a “light dusty rose matte”. I would call it a matte light mauve with cooler undertones. It’s a great transition shade. Smooth and blendable.

Buzz is described as a “metallic rose shimmer with silver micro-glitter” This is one of the stand-out shades to me. It’s a perfect warm metallic pink. it’s smooth and super pigmented.

Trick is a warm copper with pink undertones, described as “light metallic pinky-copper shimmer with tonal micro-sparkle” Despite the micro glitter, this shade is soft and smooth. The shade is gorgeous. It really brings the warm side of rose gold to the palette. Another one of my favorite shades.

Now for the deeper shades. The deep shades are really unique as well. They sold me on the palette.

Nooner is described as a “medium pinky-brown matte”. Nooner to me is a rich mauve. slightly warmer and deeper than Limit. Great for the crease of alone on the lid. The texture is smooth, could be more pigmented but it’s a very buildable color.

Liar is the shimmery version of Nooner. It’s described as a “medium metallic mauve shimmer” The pigmentation is this shade is great and I love the color. It’s a very nuanced shade. it can feel warm or cool, depending on what you pair it with. I think it’s a very unique shade and I adore it. It has a richness that just sucked you in.

Factory is a shade I neglect in the palette. It’s described as a “pinky-brown satin” It’s a pretty shade with a pearly finish. It’s a little dry but pigmented, blends out beautifully. I just forget to use it. You could definitely use it to deepen the crease as the finish isn’t overly pearlized as you blend it out. I need to give this shadow some love.

Mugshot is another that I neglect, described as a “metallic taupe shimmer with a slight pink shift”. I used it Mugshot in my last tutorial. It’s a gorgeous shade just a forgotten one. The pigmentation is great, it’s smooth and all around really pretty.

Darkside is one my favorites. I love doing a smokey eye with this shade all over the lid. It’s described as a “deep taupe-mauve satin”. It’s a really cool shade that can go almost like a warm purple gray tone. I love it especially paired with a plummy aubergine liner.

Blackheart is a really cool eyeshadow, described as a “smoky black matte with rosy red micro-sparkle.” I was sold when I saw this shadow. It’s an off black with hints of burgundy that is matte with red micro-glitter. The glitter will blend away but you can pack it on with dampened brush and get the glitter to really show up and it looks really cool. The texture is kind of dry but workable and worth the effort for such a cool shade.

The Verdict

The Naked 3 has definitely stood the test of time. It’s a fantastic palette to have in your collection. I like to pull shades from it and other palettes to create a variety of looks these days. It pairs great with the ABH Modern Renaissance and The Tarte Tarteist Pro Eyeshadow Palette.  I still feel like this palette is on trend and not to be forgotten in all the new launches.

The Naked 3 retails for $54 everywhere UD is sold.

  1. The Naked 3 is my favorite Naked palette and may be my favorite eyeshadow palette ever (the only one that may take that title is my ABH modern Renaissance palette). Always happy to see someone else who loves it and their eye looks with it!

  2. I’ve only recent picked it up. I was not sure if I wanted to get this, but after several years of pushing it back, I decided it was time! And by those swatches it looks amazing!
