Welcome back! I am starting a new brand focus Lust or Bust Series and a little foray into Kat Von D Beauty. Not only will there be Lust or Bust posts where we talk all about the products, the good the bad and the ugly but I will have links to previous reviews and new reviews under way as well as a tutorial or two.
I wanted to start the series off with a Lust or Bust post doing a full overview of all of KVD’s eye products currently available. Most of these I have used and had plenty of experience with aside just a couple of things.
So let’s see what is worth the hype from KVD.
The Shade + Light Eye Contour Collection
Starting what is her most iconic eyeshadow range, The Shade + Light Collection. The original Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette launched in Spring as a companion to the Shade + Light Contour Palette and was followed by the Shade + Light Eye Contour Quads in Spring of 2016. This Summer the Shade + Light Glimmer Palette was launched which features the shimmery, and metallic sister shades to the original palette.
The Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette is an all matte palette subdivided into three quadrants; Warm, Cool, and Neutral tones. This was a palette that I didn’t know I needed until I got it. It’s the perfect palette to use alone in daytime looks to dramatic smoky eyes. The palette is a base for adding a pop of color. It’s got every base shade, transitional shade, and shades to add depth. I am going to be posting a full review soon.
As for the Shade + Light Quads, I think these are lovely. They are the perfect on the go palette if you are into a hint of color. The colors are muted so they are very wearable for every day but they still give you some color and add a little interest to your look. The quality is there. KVD can do a great matte shadow and these are no exception. Again you have the option of something deep and sultry or light and daytime appropriate. The shade selections will compliment every skin tone and undertone. If you haven’t already, give these a try when you are in Sephora.
I haven’t had the chance to check out the Shade + Light Glimmer Palette. I know KVD can do a hell of a good metallic eyeshadow so I have no doubts on the quality and tbe swatches online look great. I think it could be really fun to use with the Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette. That being said, I personally am not that into this one and will probably pass on it, just because I know I don’t need it. I have so many metallic brown shades and creams. I personally am more into unique palettes at the moment.
Metal Crush Eyeshadow
The Metal Crush Eyeshadows were launched in Summer of 2015. There are 10 vibrant and unique metallic eyeshadows in the line ranging from electric blue to shining copper. There is a shadow for everyone no matter your personal style. I want them all. lol!
I have a good bit of experience with Kat Von D’s metallic formula. I have the Metal Matte Palette which features Synergy and exclusive shades to the palette in the same formula as well as playing with the individual shades. The pigmentation of these is everything and they are buttery smooth in texture. They are all around great.
I’m really fond of the unique shades like Thrasher. Thunderstruck makes a stunning highlight too! Also, a couple of the shade names make me happy and want them based solely in that, like Danzig. Glenn Danzig is one of my favorite musicians ever, I don’t care if I need or even want a purple shadow. LOL. Same goes from Black no.1 which is a song by Type O Negative. If you have been around my blog for a while you know how I feel about Type O. I did a whole Fall series based on their songs last year.
The Alchemist Holographic Palette
Ok, so this isn’t holo. We know this thanks to SimplyNailogical. These are duo-chromes, but that doesn’t make it any less cool. The Alchemist Palette was released late 2016 after much hype but was rather disappointing in person, in my opinion.
These aren’t strictly eyeshadows, they can be used as highlighter and lip toppers. The pans are the size of eyeshadows and being that there are only 4 I feel it’s a tad over priced. The quality is great, and they are beautiful. The packaging is really cool too but you can find dupes for a better value with similar quality. I’m passing on this on one, myself. As much as I love KVD, the price and amount of product just wasn’t worth the investment. If had maybe, more shades or larger pans, I would make the purchase worth wild.
Too Faced x Kat Von D – Better Together Ultimate Eye Collection
The Too Faced x Kat Von D – Better Together Ultimate Eye Collection launched December of 2016. I was looking forward to this one after seeing that red shade. Inside you have 6 eyeshadows from KVD and 6 from Too Faced. You also have a full-sized Tattoo Liner in Trooper and a full sized Better than Sex mascara.

The concept and packaging are really cute. The KVD side has a really cool color selection. It swatched okay but the Too Faced side was a total dud in my opinion, and for $65, I want top notch quality. I get that it’s a deal because of the full sized liner and mascara but really, they could have done deluxe sample size, lowered the price and it would have been way more successful. I was just pissed when I saw the price, I was really looking forward to this launch too and went to purchase it at Sephora. After swatching it and seeing the price tag, It was an easy pass. Not worth it considering only 6 shadows were worth a damn. I was just really let down by this one. If this was half price, I would get it but not at $65. Not now, not ever. Moving on.
Kat Von D Liners + Mascara
The Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper and Mad Max are probably one of the best liquid liners I have ever used. They are so precise and delicate. You can really create detailed liner with these. The formula is super long wearing, and smooth. They also last a really long time before drying out. These are worth giving a try.
The KVD Ink Liner has a really good shade selection. I haven’t tried these, nor do I ever hear any buzz about these. I can’t speak to the quality of these but I will be checking them out because I am feeling some of these shades.
As far as the Immortal Lash Mascara, I have a full review here:
I will go ahead and say if you are looking for an easy to remove waterproof mascara, check this one out. It’s pretty damn good.
Kat Von D Eyeshadow Primer + Brows
Unfortunately, I haven’t tried the eyeshadow primer, it is on my list though because it looks great, and seems like a primer I could really like.
The Tattoo Brow Liquid Brow Liner Pen, I have used in the past and enjoyed. It’s great for drawing in individual hairs, and you can use it to feel in or make freckles too. It’s a handy tool to have if you are really into brows like me, and have brows that need a little help. I hear there will be more brow products coming out soon from KVD so I am looking forward to that.

You guys know I love me some KVD but I’m gonna keep it real if I’m not into a product. I hate not liking something from her because I really enjoy her brand. I even have a Pinterest board that is just for KVD Products. LOL. So no shade is intended in anything negative I say, it’s just my own opinion.
Coming up in this little series, I will have a full review and a tutorial or two using the Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette and feature other KVD products I love, give me a follow so you don’t miss out. I will also be reviews some of her lip products too!

I’m looking forward to reading more from this series! ❤ I haven’t really tried very much from Kat Von D. I have a couple of the liquid lipsticks. I kind of wished I could’ve tried the Matte and Metal palette. That one really interested me!

Omg I felt the same way about the holographic palette and the better together palette. The prices are just too much for barely anything. I was really looking forward to that red shade too. I ended up passing on them both
