What up! It’s time review time, a little late this week as I had some internet issues that put me behind but here we are. Today, I have a review of the Tarteist Lip Paint in both the Creamy and Quick Dry formula. I have two shades of each, so I have some swatches of those and we’ll talk about how they wear.

Okay, so I have 2 lip paints from both formulas and I want to start out by saying there is a BIG difference between the two.
Tarteist Creamy Lip Paints
The Tarteist Creamy Lip Paints have a mousey whipped formula that dries down to a velvety matte finish. These are similar to the Nyx Soft Matte Lip Creams in texture. They aren’t transfer proof and don’t fully dry down but they wear for a long time.
Overall, this is a really nice formula. It’s comfortable and leaves a flattering finish on the lips. The pigmentation is also fantastic on the two shades I have.
The first shade I have is Birthday Suit which I received as my Sephora Birthday with a blush. Birthday Suit is a pale browny nude. I absolutely love this shade, it’s one of my go-to no brainer lipsticks. This shade is available in full size but I have two minis because my roommate hated this shade on herself.

You can see Birthday Suit is a perfect your lips but better shade for my skin tone.

The next shade is I have is called YASS, this is also a mini I got in a Sephora Favorites set. YASS is described as a lavender… It’s not lavender by any means. It’s a vibrant almost neon blue-based light purple.

The pigmentation and coverage of this shade are insane! It goes on so well and looks rich and opaque with minimal effort.

Tarteist Quick Dry Lip Paints
Now for the Quick Dry Lip Paints. My roommate picked these up when they were half price because we didn’t realize it was different from the creamy formula and the colors were gorgeous. Boy, were we wrong. The formula is totally different and pretty fucking horrible. These take a lot of finessing and working with to get them to look good. They are extremely drying and flakey. You’ll see what I mean in second when I discuss the deeper shade. These are transfer proof but will wear off with eating and drinking. They don’t wear off gracefully either unlike the Creamy Lip Paints which fade softly.
The first shade I want to talk about is called Obsessed (mauve), this one is the better of the two as you can apply it thinly and get a decent look.

The pigmentation is fine with Obsessed, and I love the shade and I can make this one work. In this first picture is a thin layer applied very carefully. Not bad.

However, if you try to go in with a second coat of fix any patchiness, you end up with a very unflattering chalky finish that feels and looks disgusting. This shade is pretty good so I don’t have to layer it up. That being said, you gotta get it right the first go or else you end up with dry rotted leathery lips.

Next and last shade is Acid Washed described as a black cherry, this shade looked amazing swatched on our hands but my god is it bad on the lips.

Here is a very carefully done swatch, I mean very carefully. It took way too much look to make this look good.

Here is why this one is so damn bad. This is one coat below. Patchy and streaky as hell! So you have to do a second layer which looked good enough for me to get a picture.
Then you move your mouth and this happens! It literally flakes off your lips in a confetti of liquid lipstick shame! I smiled and this happened.
And heaven forbid you rub your lips together, are you joking my ass? This is awful. How dare Tarte charge $20 for this. How dare they even sell something so awful. I’m no amateur to makeup or liquid lipstick for christ sake. I know what a formula should be and how one should wear. This is not it. This one is worse them the Makeup Revolution Retro Matte Lip Kit. I am offended! LOL.
This wasn’t the first impression, I have tried with this lipstick a few times and this is where I ended up each time. Get yo shit together Tarte! This shade is so fucking bad. I don’t love the Obsessed shade but at least I could make it work.
You guys know I love Tarte. The Tarteist palettes, both eyeshadow and highlighter palettes are a holy grail, the Lash Paint is great. The Contour palette is fantastic. I love the Tarteist line but this was so bad.
The Verdict
Tarteist Quick Dry Lip Paints – Hard pass! Get the fuck out of here with that nonsense.
Tarteist Creamy Lip Paints – Fantastic! They are great.

I just got my Sephora birthday gift with the Tarte set last week, I was so surprised I actually liked the formula because like you, I tried the quick dry version and it’s completely different! I totally agree about the patchiness and flakyness 😦
