Hello! Today I finally have my first impressions and wear test of the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation. I know, about damn time. This post kept getting pushed back and it supposed to go up Wednesday but I cam down with the plague once again. Finally, on the mend and girl, it has been a week. Between fighting with my insurance which I no longer have until next November due to a clerical error that cannot be corrected because of some stupid law. Anyway. At least I still have dental and vision because on top of being sick I broke a tooth and have hurt on and off all week as well. Heading to dentist Monday to get that sorted out and to just top it all off, it’s that time of the month. I mean why not throw that in too right? I have wanted to do nothing this past week but curl up and cry but what does any of this have to do with the Fenty Foundation (I’m just calling it that because that name is too damn much to be typing) Not a damn thing so let’s talk about some makeup!
I was wandering around Sephora annoying the employees as usual because I was just walking around and touching things instead of actually buying anything. I do this pretty often just to look at makeup in person and get out of the house. I like to swatch, try out and touch things before I purchase. I am not an impulsive person and I like to shop wisely so I don’t buy makeup on a whim. Anyway, I asked the gal to match me for the Fenty Foundation and to have a sample a few weeks ago because the lightest shade was so effing perfect, I couldn’t not try it despite all the talk about it not being great for dry skin. Curiosity killed that cat right. Well, in the case the cat was LIVING!
One of the great things about Sephora is they will give you a sample of anything to try out at home and they are usually very generous with the size. I left the store with a week supply of the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Matte Longwear Foundation in the shade 100 – for very fair skin with neutral undertones. Heelll yeah. This is the lightest shade in the range which seemed like it might actually be, dare I say too light for me!? But the foundation dries down a hair deeper so this ended up being a perfect match for me.
Rihanna has turned the beauty industry upside down with her recent launch. Hitting the shelves in ALL Sephoras with 40 shades of foundation right off the bat. I have to commend her for trying to include everyone in her range. That is amazing and her line is just what the industry needed. She’s challenged other brands to step their game up. We are not here to play chemist and mix foundation anymore to get a shade match.
What are some of the claims:
What it does:
Finally—the ultimate photo filter in foundation form. Born in 40 boundary-breaking shades, Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation gives skin an instantly smooth, pore-diffused, shine-free finish that easily builds to medium to full coverage. The oil-free formula is made with climate-adaptive technology that’s resistant to sweat and humidity, and won’t clog pores so that wherever you are, it’s going to work on your skin. Best of all, this long-wearing, light-as-air texture is undetectable on the skin—so you always look like you.
Let’s get into the first impressions. I did two wear tests with this foundation on both long and humid days. This before Elsa decided to visit us down in Louisiana and freeze everything. So I was able to test the foundation out of warmer typical LA days. Just to explain how it normally feels in my part of LA, we are about 5 hours inland from the gulf but the air here is very heavy with moisture and humidity. It’s also typically hot even in the winter the air is muggy feeling. This winter is a fluke and I don’t like it one bit. Dry cold air and snow. Get out of here with that nonsense. My skin can’t even right now.

Day 1 – First Impressions
Okay, on to the application. Here is my freckled and rosacea skin in all her glory. My jawline is 10 shades redder than the rest of my body. I believe that is a hormonal thing. I have PCOS and that does all kinds of crazy shit your body.
To apply the foundation I dotted it on in small areas because I saw online that it sets fast, I used an Eco Tools Sponge to blend it out. I know it looks like white paint on me at the moment. Just wait.
So here is how she looks before concealer or setting powder after the foundation has dried down. I applied just one layer and I really like the coverage. It evened me out perfectly and ended up being a perfect match.
I didn’t really feel the need to set the foundation which is something I always do despite having a drier skin type. I like my makeup locked down.
Here’s a look at how she’s sitting on the skin around my fine lines and crease-prone areas. Pretty damn good.
So I went ahead and finished my makeup and went out for the day. So far I was loving it.
Midday check in I did on my Instagram story shows good results as well.
So how did she hold up for about 9 hours all together? Pretty freaking well, I’d say. I rubbed my nose a bit so it’s gone there and a bit around the mouth because I ate and such. This was a pretty low key day though. I got groceries and worked at my desk most the day so the wear is more from me touching my face and itching my nose which itches always.
I was really pleased with how the foundation wore through, but I wanted to test it more on a busier and longer day.
Day 2 – Wear Test
For Day 2 I had a lot more going on that day which included staying out until 3 am at the bar so she got tested good! I also ran errands and was out and about quite a bit so the foundation was on for well over 12 hours.
Here is how everything looked before leaving the comforts of home for the day.
Btw, these photos are completely unedited so this is my 30-year-old face in all her glory. As I said, this was a much longer day. We ran errands, had dinner and went to the bar for a really long time. It was 3 am when I took the last check-in photos. And here they are after over 12 hours of wear:
So you can see some wear to the foundation and some dryness which happens to me after a long day of wearing makeup, my skin gets dry. But the foundation held up better than the rest of my face. Also around my mouth is ALWAYS dry.
After continuing to use the rest of the sample I had here is what I learned:
- I love it and really enjoyed a matte foundation.
- I am purchasing it
- Rihanna is Queen
I also had more compliments on my skin and complexion from strangers that I have ever gotten when I wore this foundation. It lived up to the claims for me and worked on my dry skin just fine.
I am sold, shut up and take my money Riri.

Wow, the coverage is insane! I opted for the Faux Filter Foundation as they were coming out at the same time. Also you look a little bit like Kat Von D in some angles 🙂
