Get the Look | She Wears Devil Red – An Anti-Valentine’s Day Makeup Tutorial featuring Kat Von D Saints & Sinners Palette and Colourpop.

Happy Valentines Day ya’ll. I posted a lot of more romantic for Valentines this year so I decided for my last one before V-Day I wanted to go full on goth and do a more Anti-Valentines look.

This is totally the style of makeup I wore in my early 20’s only better done these days. I wanted to go with a red and black dramatic eye and a vampy lip.

Devil red (3)

Song inspiration this time is from Moonspell and the song Devil Red of course and if you want to see how I got this look, just keep reading below.

For this look, I used shadows from the Kat Von D Saints & Sinner Palette as well as a Colourpop Super Shock Shadow in Paradox but the star is definitely the Saints & Sinners Palette.

I started the look in my normal way of eyes being primed and brows done.

I went in first on a huge fluffy brush with Amen to set the lid and create a nice black canvas to blend the eyeshadows over top of. This look uses a lot of dramatic shade and quite a bit of blending so a smooth set base is key.

1

Next, I went into the transition and socket area with a vibrant orange called Devil. Fitting.

I applied Devil all in the crease and transition, really blowing the shadow out toward to the tail of the brow and to the inner part of the brow.

2

Then with the Colourpop Super Shock Shadow in Paradox, I carved out the lid where I am going to be placing the red. This shade is really just serving as a base.

I applied Paradox with a flat brush and softened the edges into the crease. This shade has a satin finish so it worked perfectly for this.

3

I went back in with Devil to really deepen the crease and make sure the orange was super vibrant. Devil is the shade that all the shadow will be blending into so I go back and forth into it quite a lot. 4

For the lid shade, I took Stigmata which is a pearlized bright red.

And on a flat brush, I patted it all over the lid and softly blended it into the orange.

5

Now things get a little bold.  I took a pencil brush and applied Sabbath, the matte black to the outer corner. Starting out very slowly and building up the pigment as I go. Add some shadow, blend, add some more and blend.

I kept Sabbath very focused in the outer corner and softly blended into an elongated cat eye shape and in onto the red softly. I also took Sabbath into the crease softly to create a slight cut crease. I made sure the black flowed into the red and into the orange seamlessly as possible. This will take some time and patience because black is tricky to blend.

6

Next, I lined the upper lash line with a black pencil and sketched a soft wing, then blended it with the black eyeshadow

7

I wanted a pop of shimmer and shine on the inner corner, so a patted some of Rapture which is a glittery coral with pink glitters.

Rapture just gives the look a little oomph.

8Then I cleaned up the edges with a q-tip and primer to get a sharp line before moving on to the face makeup and lower lash line. 9

And face makeup is complete for the most part and on to the lower lash line which I kept pretty simple really. I lined my waterline and lash line with a black pencil and blended it out with the black eyeshadow and a pencil brush. I softened the black with a teensy bit of the orange just so it looks blended. Of course, I made sure to connect the upper and lower lash line so that everything just flowed up and out.

The Finished Eye

I finished off the eye with LOreal Voluminous Superstar X Fiber Mascara and highlighted the inner corner with a touch of Starburst from the Anastasia Beverly Hills Sugar Glow Kit.

The Lips

For the lips, I wanted super vampy so I lined them with Nyx Suede Lips Liner in Alien and used Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Damned.

The Finished Look

Devil red (4)

She wears devilRed

she sweats the poison
-all over her
keeps me quiet
-inside her storm
she has the method
-no other knows

red as the veins, she likes to swim in
floating so gently, through this human misery

She must be a part
Of a Highest Plan
Something I can´t understand

she wears devilRed

She´s selling a damned soul
To whoever pays the most
Her body-the cure
for all evil and good

red as the veins
she likes to swim in
floating so gently
through this human misery – Moonspell

  1. I’m in love with this freaking look! I want to try it, I never bothered with any of the kat von d stuff though because when she got pretty big it was WAY out of my price range… But I’ve seen such good looks come from this palette specifically!!! Guess I’ll wait and see if it’ll be brought back out

    1. Thank you so much! It’s a really fun palette but you can definitely find dupes for all the shades. Colourpop has all the shades I used I believe and nyx. This look is right up your alley too!
