Get the Look | Dawnrazor – A Steampunk/South Western Gothic Makeup Tutorial featuring Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture + Colourpop

Good evening, Tonight I have a Get the Look for ya’ll featuring the Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Palette. I wanted to do something with the beautiful copper shade in the palette so I went with a halo smoky eye paired with a deep purple lip. You could, of course, make it more “wearable” by going with a softer lip color.

The colors chosen for this look were also inspired by the song Dawnrazor by Fields of the Nephilim.  You could definitely call this a steampunk look.

I was thinking of a southwestern gothic kind of look aka Spaghetti goth. Anyway, if you want to see how I created this look, just keep reading below.

Like I said I was really inspired by the imagery and vibe of the Fields of the Nephilim song Dawnrazor. The whole album really. Dusty browns and coppers. Think of the American South West from an old Western but more apocalyptic.

Let’s get started.

The Eyes

I started this look out like always with my brows done and my eyes primed with a primer and concealer, then set with my setting powder so there is a smooth canvas to work on and everything blends smoothly.

I always began my eyeshadow by building up the crease and transition area. First, in the transition, I took the shade Dawn, an ultra-matte sand shade.

I applied Dawn with a very large fluffy eyeshadow brush all throughout the crease and transition area. I blended this shade out quite far, pulling it toward the inner part of the brow and out toward the tail.

Next up I took New Wave, an ultra-matte citron orange to further enhance the crease/transition area.

I applied New Wave more focused into the crease but blended it out into the transition shade.

To bring an element of interest and to kind of grunge it up a bit, I went in with Edge, an ultra-matte gold mustard lightly on a fluffy brush.

Edge went just around the edges (hah!) of New Wave give a yellow hazy effect.

Moving on to the lid, I went in with my finger and patted Adorn, a metallic bronze all over the mobile lid up to the crease.

Now to get the halo effect, I took Fudge (ultra-matte warm bronze) on a pencil brush.

I applied Fudge to the inner corner and outer corner blending them over into the Adorn shade softly so Adorn is shining brightly just in the center of my eyelid. I also took Fudge into the crease and blended it out into New Wave. I really went smoky with the Fudge shade to get a dramatic and grungey look, you could pair it back and have a much softer look.

I did go back in with Adorn to really amp it up in the center and made sure everything was well blended which usually requires revisited shades you previously used in case they get lost in the blended. That goes for any look and any palette, not just Subculture.

Next up, liner.

I actually kept the liner kind of tame. I did a small wing with brown gel liner along the lash line and brought it up into a small wing just for some lift and definition which I need with a halo eye as it can make my eyes appear rather downturned and sad so the wing gives it some balance and elongates the eye.

I went ahead and finished up my face makeup and on to the lower lashline. I first went in with New Wave along the lower lash line and blended it out.

Then with a small pencil brush, I applied Fudge on the outer portion and blended it out with New Wave. I also made sure to join up Fudge in the outer corner on the lid.

On the inner corner, I went in with Electric, a  duo-chrome lime gold which gives some brightness to the eye.

The Finished Eyeshadow

I went in with mascara and finished off the eyes.

The Lips

I hope ya’ll enjoy this little foray into a Steampunk/South-Western Gothic makeup. I really liked it. This is really one of my favorite looks. I have a couple more coming with Subculture and with Huda Beauty Desert Dusk. I can’t wait to get my lighting set back up because I am itching to do a Tech Noir Cyberpunk look.
