It has been a while since I have reviewed some skincare around here, not for lack of trying new products but more so lackluster products that I didn’t want to waste anyone’s time on. That is not the case today.
I had the good fortune to be sent the Tatcha Violet-C Serum and The Essense in to try out and review. I was really excited to give these products a try and I have for about a month now. I like to be able to a least get a good month with a skincare product before I review it, longer if possible but do have a deadline on this one.
Tatcha is a brand that I have been wanting to try out for a while now. They have clean ingredients that seem to be unique to their brand. Tatcha’s brand is about mixing the classic geisha beauty ritual using simple and traditional ingredients paired with new skincare science.
The idea of skincare being a ritual appeals to me. It’s an act of self-love, you’re taking care of yourself. It’s a moment of peace before bed that is just for you. When you start to think of it that way, it becomes something enjoyable and something more rather than just a chore or something you have to do. Skincare has become a special moment. I have to admit Tatcha’s philosophy has changed the way I look at my skincare routine which I used to find almost burdensome.
The Essence

First, I want to include this quote from Tatcha about The Essence because it ties in nicely to what I was saying above and I can’t phrase it any better. “Geisha embraced and perfected the tradition of beauty waters as the foundation to their beauty ritual to restore and soften their skin. This secret has been passed down by generations; today, 97 percent of Japanese women use an essence. Tatcha honors this ancient practice in our modern, powerful evolution. ”
So what is The Essence Plumping Skin Softener? Well, according to Tatcha, it’s ” a resurfacing softener of 98.7 percent pure antiaging Japanese superfoods that makes all skin care work better.”
It’s a water-like liquid you pat on your face before applying skincare and after cleansing daily which allows your skin care, you apply afterward be all the more potent and more effective.
The Essence contains pure, 98.7 percent hadasei-3, a concentrate of nourishing green tea, rice, and algae. All traditional Japanese ingredients used for anti-aging.
These ingredients work through a natural fermentation which creates lactic acid which in turn helps support natural cell turnover and improve skins texture.
The Essence also gives the skin double its natural moisture content which decreases the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, leaving the skin more plump and youthful.
It allows all your other skincare to be more effective by “creating a pathway to deliver treatments that follow more deeply and amplifying their effectiveness. ”

I think The Essence is an absolutely lovely product that completely enhances one’s skincare routine from just the application to its effectiveness. I can honestly say my skincare has performed a hundred times better than before adding The Essence into my skincare ritual. It’s just a lovely product to use and experience.
It’s also suitable for all skin types and is gentle on the skin with no fragrance. It’s formulated without the following:
- Sulfates SLS and SLES
- parabens
- formaldehydes
- formaldehyde-releasing agents
- phthalates
- mineral oil
- retinyl palmitate
- oxybenzone
- coal tar
- hydroquinone
- Triclosan
- Triclocarban
The Violet-C Brightening Serum

The Tatcha Violet-C Serum is formulated with pure ingredients containing
20 percent vitamin C and 10 percent AHA to gently resurface the skin reducing wrinkles, fine lines, dark spots, uneven texture, and dullness.
Again, I am going to have to quote Tatcha on the bit about the Ingredients.
” – Unique 20% Vitamin C Blend: A fast-acting, moisturizing vitamin C derivative absorbs quickly into skin to fight aging from daily free radical assault; helps support surface cell turnover for firmer looking skin while also improving moisture levels; remains in skin longer, helping to protect skin from oxidation and reduce UV damage for brighter skin over time.
– Mild Fruit AHAs 10%: Gentle yet effective acids remove debris and the buildup of dead skin cells for smooth, radiant skin; derived from seven fruits (apple, grapefruit, orange, lemon, lime, hawthorn, and jujube).
– Japanese Angelica Root Extract: An edible plant prized for centuries in herbal medicine for its recovery benefits, it helps reduce the appearance of dark spots, discoloration and post-acne scarring from the source; helps to diffuse accumulated excess melanin, a cause of hyperpigmentation, resulting in visibly more even skin tone. ”
I have been using the Violet-C Serum for roughly a month alongside The Essence and within a couple weeks, I noticed a real difference in my skin. It appears so much more even. My dark spots from sun damage have faded tremendously. My skin looks clean. My acne scars are reduced. It’s kind of amazing. I have used a few products similar to this and reviewed them but not have performed this well.
I am also seeing the surface and texture of my skin change for the better. It’s smoother and the fine lines have diminished. I am really impressed and pleased with this product. I feel confident in my bare skin for the first time.
I haven’t seen a product make this big of a difference in my skin in ages.
The Violet-C is suitable for Normal, Dry, Combination, and Oily skin. It’s cruelty-free, gluten-free, vegan, no silicones, oil or fragrance. It’s formulated without Sulfates SLS and SLES, parabens, formaldehydes, formaldehyde-releasing agents, phthalates, mineral oil, retinyl palmitate, oxybenzone, coal tar, hydroquinone, Triclosan, Triclocarban.
I would 100 percent recommend both the Violet-C Serum and The Essence. No question.

To be completely honest, this is the first luxury skincare I have used that is worth the price tag and has set a new standard in how I view skincare.
I want to try the Violet-C Serum. Actually, any product from Tatcha. They have such great reviews.

The products sound amazing! The only thing holding me back is the price tags, haha. Though I do understand that quality skincare is often at luxury prices. Great post, as always!

I know! I probably wouldn’t have ever tried them because of the price but seeing the effects changed my mind. I have used luxury products before that aren’t nearly as good.
